Trust, connection, and the willingness to risk…
Do you want to help others collaborate or learn or work together more effectively? If so, do this little 'thought experiment':
Find a person in your mind who you don't like working with.
Ask yourself, why?
Often times, there is a level of trust that is missing. A level of connection. 'We're not on the same page', you might say.
If you are running a workshop or a meeting, be it a process driven workshop with people who may know each other, or a learning workshop where people may not... think about how you are 'setting the stage' for these people to trust one another enough to risk moving out of their 'comfort zone', and into their 'stretch zone'.
If you just 'throw them into the deep end' and expect them to perform, it may work for some... but you may also have a lot of collateral damage done to those who, for whatever reason, may need to connect and develop a bit of trust first.
Facilitating people is about setting them up for success. It is about how you can build connection, trust, and help them to take risks for the purpose of the workshop.
