Listening to the inner voice
I don't know when it happened, but as a young child, my Dad (a history teacher) shared with me the story of Martin Luther King Jr... and I remember vividly his sharing with me MLK's '𝙈𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙤𝙥 𝙎𝙥𝙚𝙚𝙘𝙝' - given on 3 April 1968, the day before King died.
While the line that sticks out in my mind is MLK's saying that '...𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘪𝘵'𝘴 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦. 𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘐'𝘮 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘸. 𝘐 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘰 𝘎𝘰𝘥'𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭...', and my father saying that King knew, from an early age, that there would be a time when civil rights could shift for the better. He knew that if we was to be ready to influence that change, that he (MLK) would need to hone his skills, and his leadership to be able to make that change.
My Dad told me that life is like that... that times come when a change can be made, but if you are not listening, if you are not aware, you will not see it... or worse yet, if you do see it but have not built your skills, you won't be able to enact the change that needs to happen.
The photo below was in the Snake River canyon of Idaho... on a close to 6000km solo walk I did across the USA... and a time when I re-read the Mountaintop speech... and grew closer to my own inner voice.
